Classes at The Parent Connection help parents:
- gain knowledge about child development and age-appropriate behaviors
- explore and shape positive parenting skills and attitudes
- establish healthy relationship patterns with their children
and their family
Curriculum-based
Parenting Classes are six weeks, two hours a week (12 hours):
Systematic Training
for Effective Parenting – STEP - parenting young children,
2-6
Establish healthy relationship
patterns right from the beginning with young children. Topics
include: Understanding young children, understanding young children’s
behavior, building self-esteem in the early years, listening and
talking to your child, helping young children learn to cooperate,
discipline for young children and young children’s emotional
and social development.
Systematic Training
for Effective Parenting –
STEP - parenting school-age children, 6-12
Gain effective skills
that can be used immediately to improve communication and family
functioning. Topics include: Understanding yourself and your
child, understanding beliefs and feelings, encouraging your child
and yourself, listening and talking to your child, helping children
learn to cooperate, discipline that makes sense and choosing your
approach.
Systematic Training
for Effective Parenting – STEP - parenting teens, 12-18
Learn practical approaches
to meet the challenge of raising a teenager and the skills to help
you connect with your teen. Topics include: Understanding
yourself and your teen, changing your response to your teen, communicating
respect and encouragement, encouraging cooperation and solving problems,
using consequences to build responsibility, and helping your teen
deal with everyday challenges.
Guiding Good Choices
– parenting 9-14 year olds to prevent risky behaviors
Helps improve family management
skills and reduce the likelihood that children ages 9-14 will develop
substance abuse and other risky behaviors in adolescence. Based
on the Social Development Strategy, an effective series that emphasizes
bonding to family, school, and peer groups as protection against
drug use, truancy, and delinquency.
Calming the Family
Storm – anger management for moms, dads, and all the kids,
all ages
Discover strategies for:
getting anger under control quickly; teaching children how to handle
their anger with each other, and with adults; getting along better
even when you’re angry. Learn powerful ways of handling
anger, creating changes that will result in less anger and more
effective expression of anger, and a happier and more harmonious
family life.

- How to Talk so Kids will Listen and Listen so Kids will Talk
- Siblings Without Rivalry
- Managing Anger Together - for parents with their children
